South Africa's airports are gearing up to receive an estimated half-a-million visitors for the 2010 Fifa World Cup with improved check-in and self-service facilities. Big teams like Brazil, England and Ghana have aready booked themselves a place in the 2010 world cup.

Accreditation, marketing, media, protocol services, spectator services, transportation, administration, environmental services, welcome and information services, information technology and telecommunication, language support, rights protection programme, logistic services, hospitality and ushering services and volunteer management are the 16 functional areas that requires about 15 000 volunteers from all over the world. At the end of the day it is the volunteers that actually make the tournament happen.

From its humble beginnings in 1930 the Soccer World Cup has grown to be one of the most spectacular sporting events in the world. The sport’s governing body (Federation Internationale de Football Association) are the organizers of the most important competition in international football the FIFA World Cup.

The previous tournament took place four years ago in Germany and the Italians were victorious for the fourth time since 1930. Teams like Brazil are coming to South Africa as favorites after winning the World Cup Five times. The tournament takes place every four years and South Africa will be playing in their third world cup tournament after getting out in first rounds in France 1998 and Korea/Japan in 2002. The FIFA World Cup 2010 will be the first time that the final tournament will be hosted by an African nation.
